mounting my Mercury force 125 for repair

Good evening. I've been lurking and looking for info on all my OB needs and have found a lot of great answers. However, this one I need help with. Last year I purchased a 1987 Ebtide Montego 170 with a 1986 Mercurey Force 125 on it. The motor runs however the T&T does not. The owner said he could not find parts, He didn't look hard enough I guess. Now I bought it knowing the boat interior needed to be replaced ( seats, carpet, and side trim). I was limited as to what I could do because of a bad hip, that has been replaced and now I'm in gear to make **** happen.
I have a new T&T motor and pump and a few other parts. My son and I removed the motor yesterday and I have it on a stand. So since the mount is what I need to remove to clean, repair, and replace a few used parts It will not have the transom mount to hold it to the stand.
What have you guys done in this case? I do not want to lay it down. My idea is to build a wooden crate with 2x4 and 4x4 to support the motor where the straps were run to lift it from the boat while I do the cleanup and repairs. I do not have a garage just a shed about 8x12 in size. The motor does fit in on the stand
Any ideas would be helpful.

On my Merc V6, the PTT motor can be replaced with the motor still on the boat, but the steering cable needs to be loose, and the starboard transom bracket unbolted and moves out of the way. The engine should be sitting on the transom, or blocked to the transom to help carry it's weight..

The entire PTT system can be removed with the engine still bolted to the transom. Your Force is a bit different, but you could look to see it those ideas will work for you.

The other choice is to hang the motor. I use the header of my garage door, a 1/2" Lag bolt and a "cum-a-long" to hang the motor by it's flywheel. Merc makes a lifting eye for that purpose. Force likely has something similar.

Thanks for the reply. After several hours of thinking of different ways to make a mount that I could use I decided to make one using 4x4s and 2x4s in my shed creating a header and uprights with the 4x4s and using the 2x4s to secure it to the shed studs. Then hang the motor with the straps from the 4x4 cross-section.
I added pics this time. The one pic shows the steering cable, Yeah it's bent, that was after we tried to get that thing to come out or release and it did not want to move. So the heck with it I cut it.
You can see on the starboard side that the old T&T motor and pump is already removed from the mount. That entire mount is what I want to remove once I have the motor secured to rebuild. circled in red.
The hoist I am using on my truck hitch is rated for 500 pounds. I worked well.

As I understand it, you need a minimum of posts before you can upload pictures. You might retry it.

make sure you have the right parts because a 1986 125 is not a Merc Motor
