Mounting Location for Ballast Resistor

This may be a silly question, but I recently replaced my resistor wire with a regular wire and a ballast resistor on my 85 Mercruiser 140. I wasn't sure where to mount it, so I mounted it in the back of the engine compartment with a screw in the fiberglass. I was wondering where they are most commonly mounted on other boats or if it matters. I noticed it gets fairly hot when running. I was concerned with it getting too hot and maybe burning the fiberglass hull or overheating the resistor itself possibly causing it to fail. I haven't had the boat out yet. Wanted to get some oppionions before I get out on the water. Any info is appreciated.

Could anyone give some information about where the ballast resistor is mounted on their boats? I just want to make sure it is safe where I have it mounted or if I need to move it.

I really doubt that it would get hot enough to cause a problem but on my V8 it was mounted on the back of the intake manifold. However, I removed it when I went to the Pertronix Ignition Module.

Re: Mounting Location for Ballast Resistor

I was suggested that it is better to have it as close to the coil as possible and have the wire going to the coil fairly short. Maybe I can mount it to the engine somewhere with just some zip-ties to keep it off the engine so any vibrations won't break the ceramic?

mine is mounted on a small flat piece of metal that's mounted to the engine block, close to the coil.
