We traded in our 89 Bayliner 17' w/ 85hp Force OB for a 90 Chapparel (I think) 18' w/ 190hp Mercruiser I/O.

It came with an EZ Loader roller trailer. I hate roller trailers, but Im just going to leave it as is.

The license plate mount on the trailer is somewhat odd. Instead of the plastic bracket that mounts to the lamp studs, there are 2 holes at the very bottom of the lamp mount plate that youre supposed to bolt the plate to. In such, the plate has very little support.

Im afraid, the way its mounted, once I hit the water, the plate will get mangled. The Registry already hates me because of the plates that I returned from teh old trailer were trashed, and that was on a plastic bracket.

Anyone have suggestions?

Buy a new light kit with the plastic bracket (I got mine at Bass Pro Shop for $15.00) and just reinstall that light, then you will also have an extra light which you should have anyway and it would be a pretty cheap fix

I fixed this problem, get your self a piece of (semi truck)mud flap
cut it about an inch bigger than the plate, mount that to your bracket.then when you hit any thing with the plate comming or going the rubber will flex.TA DA no more broken plate.

i bolted mine to the rear cross frame, and ran a small tag light to it off the running light wire. thats all that's required, if you don't tow at night or early morning the light is not required.

Re: Mounting License Plate

Buy a gate hinge and piece of flat aluminum. Mount the license plate to the aluminum plate, attach it to the hinge and the hinge to the trailer. It will swing freely. Or just mount the license plate on the aluminum plate and attach it directly to the trailer. Unless you back into the water at speed, it should survive the bath.

Re: Mounting License Plate

What I ended up doing was getting a pair of small strap hinges, and mounting the plate directly to one side of the hinges, and the other side to the holes of the plate mount on the Trailer. I didnt have to drill any additional holes (besides enlarging the holes in the hinges for the bolts).
