I am replacing the fuel pump on my 1989 70 - the oil line on original VRO2 pump has been capped off for years, and I am suspicious of diaphragm problems, so I have acquired the non-VRO pump, p/n 438559, based on advice from this forum. I have some questions as I start to tear into the job:

- is there a way to re-use the original VRO2 pump mount, that bolts to the intake manifold? Otherwise it looks like I'll need to fabricate a mount, as the new pump is quite different.

- what do I do with the electrical connection from the old pump - just tape it up and leave it? Or do I need to jump something to keep the alarm from going off?

- is the pulse hose just a regular piece of 5/16 fuel line? Or is it something extra-rigid to keep from collapsing under the vacuum?

- do I need to remove the pulse limiter fitting? I understand that I don't really need it with the non-VRO pump, but will it do any harm?

Thanks for input from people who have done this before.

I'm looking at doing the same procedure. You raise some very important questions. I'd like to know those answers as well.

Thre is a bracket you can buy to mount to fuel pump. And the electrical connection just tie rap it out of the way.

you can also screw a plate on the back of the air silencer, and mount the pump to it.

Let's assume that the bracket problem gets solved, shouldn't be too hard. BIG QUESTION : Will the "QuickStart" feature still function in the same manner?? The service manual on this motor says that : "mixture enrichment for cold starting and running is provided by a solenoid operated fuel primer valve. When activated at the key switch, the valve diverts some VRO output directly to the intake manifold."

Any opinions on whether the " QuickStart " feature will still function after the VRO to fuel pump conversion ?

Thanks for the mounting pics - I'll be able to make a mount easily enough.

To previous poster, the pump output line is plumbed to the carbs and to the primer solenoid; it's the same for VRO and non-VRO pumps. Not a problem.
