I have a new Depth finder I am looking to put onto my 14' jon boat but am having trouble finding a place to put the transducer deal. I would really like to have it in the water at all times so that I can check things constantly as you would in a bass boat and such (aviod putting it on my trolling motor). My question is there a way to aviod drilling holes? If you have to drill holes is there a sure-fire way to avoid any leakage? I am not sure why but my biggest fear is leaking if I drill holes.

Thanks for the help

Kevin

Just drill and seal with a good sealant like 3M 5200. You won't have problems....

Re: Mounting a Depth Finder

When I installed my first transducer many years ago in my first jon boat, I had the same fears. What I did was buy a dent puller suction cup. Mounted the xducer to it and stuck it to the bottom of my boat. Just had to remember to release it before I beached the boat.

I have since drilled out many a hull to mount them with no leaks, but I did not have to beach those boats to get in and out.

Pikey
Buy one of the tranducer mounting blocks and glue to the hull then drill a hole in it and mount your transducer. It works great. I have a big 8 degree transducer, a little 20 degree transducer, and a speed sensor mounted on mine with no holes in the boat. I did a search here on IBOAT and did not see one. Still should do a search here first as IBOAT has great prices and provides this great forum.
Try this link and search on TRANSDUCER MOUNTING.

http://www.cabelas.com/

have no fear, 3M 5200 is here! great stuff. i used it for same thing you mention on my jon, with stainless screws and washers on each side, just plop a glob of 5200 on there and make sure to let it dry thouroly( my spelling sucks )before you go out. i have 5200 all over my jon boat. heck that stuff is sooo good, i just may even make a boat out of just 3M 5200...

I have several differnt portable holders that I have used when I go fishing without my boats. I am sure there are many different ones around so if you do not want to permanently mount you can always use one of them.
Try http://www.fishingaccessories.com/transducer holders.htm or check iboats, basspro, cabellas etc.
