Mount an E-TEC powerhead on an older chassis?

This is probably a really dumb question, but just a what-if...

Several months ago I was grumbling about issues with my powerhead running rough at low RPMs and started to wonder whether any options existed to convert an outboard from carbureted to fuel-injected. A little bit of research revealed that FI systems need to be certified for marine use, so I would be hard-pressed to find something that would bolt directly on, or so I thought.

Today, my motor is running as desired, so this question is moot, and if I need to replace my powerhead, I'd probably switch to a motor with a more robust gearcase and a bit more power.

I looked at pictures of 50HP and 60HP E-TEC powerheads, and from what I can tell, they are nearly the same engine as my motor J50ES. It looks like the same base gasket and 17 spline shaft is used from 1993 to 2005.

Is it possible to mount a 60HP E-TEC powerhead on an older Johnson/Evinrude 2-cyl motor, or are there other factors (wiring, cowl, etc.) that would cause issues?

Just wondering...
