New to this smartphone stuff. My question is, does leaving the 'mobile data' feature turned on constantly, consume battery life?

As I am waiting for young son to come home from DC this Christmas, to give me lessons on what the heck to do with this phone, I have been leaving the 'mobile data' feature turned off. At the same time, my battery (with minimal telephone use) has been lasting for over three days. That seems to be way more time that I was told, even considering the phone is just in standby most of the time.

What say ya'll?

I read online that you should turn off whatever you're not using to save battery life. I have my mobile data on,gps on,and bluetooth on. Battery will last about 2 &1/2 days... Did you run the battery completely dead a few times? Motorola says to run it completely dead a few times and recharge it,will make the battery last longer.[they call it "training the battery"]!

all batteries should be li-po ( lithium ion ) batteries now. ni-cad batteries had a life memory, on them which meant if you didn't drain them all the way they would remember when they started getting charged. after that point they would start to discharge at that point when you first put them on the charger. no matter how new they were. the li-po batteries, have no memory so you can charge them whenever you want and do not need to be fully drained ever. i still drain my new smart phone batteries until they die all the way because im lazy, but i never have changed a new li-po battery since they came out.

You can keep data on. The only reason to turn it off is if you went out of the country and you got charged for data roaming.

To preserve battery life, make sure you exit applications that are running in the background that are using GPS. You should have an indicator on the phone that shows when GPS is active.

I don't allow my email to be pushed automatically. I have it set to do manually only when I open my email program. If you don't do that, it may try to access your email server at set intervals which consumes a lot of battery.

The best thing to do with a lithium battery, and I don't follow this because its such a pain, is to never discharge fully or charge fully. My iphone 4 is 2 years old and I can't tell a huge difference from when it was new and I always charge fully so YMMV.
