I bought my son-in-laws 1988 bayliner bass trophy, as is, he told me the trolling motor didn't work. It's a motor guide 727 30 lbs. The motor was seized and had been full of water, (the son in law isn't big on maintenance issues!). I had a T-34 MG also 30 lbs and switched out the motors. Now when I hook it up to the battery the motor comes on and won't shut off. I hit all the switches on the foot controller and have the dial set to the "off" position but it still runs at high speed. The "on/off" switch is good on the ohm check. Any ideas where to start? Thanks

Re: Motorguide won't stop

You either have something wired incorrectly or the ON/OFF switch is stuck in the closed position. Without current it can't run. Turn the switch off and check for voltage on the motor side of the switch. If you see 12V and the switch is off, the switch is shorted internally or simply stuck in the ON position.
