Re: motorguide trolilng motor broken magnet
I bought a MinnKota 4hp about 20 years ago which let loose the same way, the upper magnet came unglued and fell onto the armature. The magnet cracked in three pieces. I tore the motor down, sanded and cleaned the housing, removing all the original glue on both the magnet and the housing. I glued the broken magnet back together with marine Tex carefully making sure it was a perfect fit, once it dried, I re-epoxied the magnet back into the housing. I reassembled the motor and its still fine today.
The proper fix is most likely to buy a whole new motor housing with magnets already installed but a home done fix is often possible. I've also tossed small bits of magnets and done without them with no noticeable ill effects too.
