motorguide stuck on speed 5

I have 71lb trolling motor, motorguide 24v It has a rapid,continuos,regular. I am having a problem. It does not matter if i turn it off or any of the 5 speed settings if i hit the foot pedal power button it runs in 5. Even when the dial is off it still runs in 5 if you hit the power button. Can any one give me an idea what this might be. This is a 2006.
