I have a 1988 yamaha pro-v 150. Last season it ran great until the end of the season when it started to stutter around 3/4 of its top speed. i dont know what the rpms are because the guage doesnt work. I took it in to my boat guy and he checked the motor over and cleaned the carbs. He said there was a "green jelly" in the carbs. This cost me $500. I took the boat out and it ran way worse then before, so i took it back to him. He told me that the prop needed to be re-hubbed, so he sent it out for me to get re-hubbed. That cost me $55.That did helped some but it was still didnt have the take off power it used to and it would cut out once i started picking up speed. I took it back and he re-built the carbs and cleaned the jets. He said he found some dirt in the jets. That cost me $400. I just took it back out and its still not right. It starts great, idles great, but it doesnt have the take off power it used too and as soon as i hit about 15-20mph(my best estimate) it started to stutter and loses power and slows down. It has never stalled.

What else could be causeing this? Should i find a new mechanic? im thinking i should. What do you think?

Re: motor wont run right

Seems to me that this guy is throwing parts at the motor hoping one will work. A really good mechanic should know the problem and be able to fix it without a trial and error method. At my best estimate you have close to
$1,000.00 in a motor that still isn't up to your expectations.
I think you've already answered your own question on the mechanic issue.

Re: motor wont run right

Tanks for the reply. I talked to another boat shop today and im going to be dropping my boat off with them next week sometime. They said it might be the fuel pump going bad. What ever it is i hope they get it fixed the first time.
