I have a Merc 850 that was overhauled last summer. It's been a headache ever since. I took it into the shop in the spring to have it tuned up (adjusted carbs, timing, replaced voltage regulator, new plugs, etc). The boat has always had problems with stalling under load. It usually runs better before it warms up... on the first run of the day. I keep taking it into the shop for more maintenance.

I took the boat out today. It was running like a champ at first. Then, after I shut it down, I heard some clicking noises coming from the engine. I attempted to start it a few minutes later. It wouldn't start unless I put it in fast idle. Then it would die after I put it in regular idle. I tried and tried to put the boat in gear, but it would die. I had to troll in to the ramp.

I can get the motor started, but it has to be infast idle... and it dies when I give it throttle. I've had this boat in the shop 3 times after the overhaul. It's becoming a nightmare.

I'm also having problems with the plugs getting fouled easily. I don't know if this is part of the same problem.

Any ideas?
