Volvo Penta 270 1986 Stern Drive.

Question, Motor will not turn over. All I hear is a ticking noise. (Actually, according to my girlfriend for which I am trying to help since I am not there at the moment.) So, I had her go get a new Battery and it still does nothing but make the ticking noise when I heard it through the cell phone. So, could this be the starter or could it be something else that is causing it not to turn over?

Jimmy

Is motor in gear or shift lever at a place that the netural start switch is not working??
Is battery switch set to off??
When she changed the battery did she change right one??? Battery cables clean and tight?? Key switch working?? Was the key left on?? Blown Fuse. After all that comes down to starter solonoid, Starter, Motor frooze up. Battery charged up? I always start with the simple stuff.
Good Luck.

I agree with Boatist. Start with the solenoid. My motor did the same and was corrected with a new solenoid.

I would check the battery cables and connection. If coroded they won't make good contact on any battery.
