I am wondering where I Can find an approximate weight for outboard motors, possibly from the manufacture specs?

I have a custom duck boat and I currently have a 1980 70 HP Johnson on it. I want to get something newer and bigger, around the 100 HP range and in the 1990's. However I don't want to add a ton of weight to the boat.

Thanks

Re: Motor Weights

Most factory shop manual will list the engine weights, but I'm equally sure you could get that info without purchasing such a manual. I'd start with the manufacture's website and see if they publish the weight or even call the manufacture as well. You could also go to the O/B manufacture section here on iboats for an idea and search for the HP and year of the engine you are interested in...

Re: Motor Weights

the Yamaha 90 2 stroke is about 270 lbs....its the lightest 90 hp out there

J-E v4's from the 90s were all running about 320 lbs... that's 85 hp up to115 hp

good luck

Re: Motor Weights

Fact is that many newer motors are heavier than they used to be -----1972 Evinrude / Johnson 125 HP models were listed at 252 lbs in the catalogue.

Re: Motor Weights

Re: Motor Weights

I guess they made the same typo error year after year.----In 1969 they listed the 115 HP at 245 lbs.---60 HP listed at 197 lbs.

Re: Motor Weights

The 1988 manual for 60-70 hp Johnson-eveinrude 2 stroke 3 cylinder outboards list their weights at 235 for long shaft manual tilt, and 248 lbs for a long shaft with hydraulic TNT

HOW is it POSSIBLE the Monster V4 crossflows weighed the same?????????

Re: Motor Weights

Newer motors have become HEAVIER and it is a concept that seems to be difficult to understand !!

Re: Motor Weights

Reaching way back the 59 V4 50hp manual start was 209 lbs
62, 75hp was 220, 77 115 270.
77 3 cylinder 75 hp short 175
Todays Evinrude etec 40 is 240 but the 50 and 60 weigh the same.

Re: Motor Weights

Newer motors are a compact package that obviously looks to be lighter.-----Some older motors look big and heavy.--------Take the hood off an older ( light weight ) 10 HP OMC and there is room to actually work on them.
