ok yall im new to forums but i got a question. I bought a sprint bass boat and im having engine trouble. The trouble comes when trying to crank the motor. I bought this boat from my uncle for four hundred dollars, heck of a deal. I restored this boat and have put alot of of time and effort into it. The trouble comes when I go to start the motor. I bought a new battery for this boat and tried to start the motor. The motor turned over two times very well, then nothing. I took the battery back and replaced it with another one. I tried the same thing again but still got nothing on the third or fourth time. I then placed booster cables on the battery and jump started it. the motor fired right up and ran great. I am trying to trouble shoot but am getting nowhere. I took the boat out to the lake for the first time in nine year last friday and luckily the boat fired right up and ran great for over an hour. I am affraid of cutting the boat off once on the lake cause im not sure if it will crank again. when i put ears on it at home and run it for a minute then cut it off and let it set it fires right up but im affraid to try it on the lake and get stranded. I got a great deal on a bass boat but this one problem is stumping me. the motor is a nissan 50 horse model number NS50C 390-1 23376 . I am not sure of the model year but am sure its going to be a late 90's model. if anyone could help. I would gladly appreciate it.

Re: motor trouble

Remove, check, clean and grease all battery/starter cable connections and ground wires....the damp marine environment causes them to corrode and the only way to really check them is to take each one apart....good luck!

Re: motor trouble

Yup. Could be almost anything, from a flaky neutral switch to a corroded connection. You need to review the entire wiring system, from the battery to the starter and all controls in between. If this is beyond your skill set, consult a marine technician.
