motor tilt question

I have a 18 hp Merc. and when towing I will keep motor tilted up. My question is do you drop motor into position before putting in water or after? I don't have power tilt and it seems like an awkward task to lower while in water but I don't want to crash my prop at boat launch. (ps, sorry,I am new to this.)

Depends on the clearance of the drive. Most I/O's need to be up unless in the water. Some outboards are high enough on the trailer that it is not a problem dropping it before launching and after loading.

If it's close enough to the road to make you tilt it up when towing, I would leave it up when launching probably.<br />Boats always seem to drop down in the water more than you think when they drop off the trailer.
