Ahoy! Have to swap outboards for a changing of the guard (one guard died). New motor is 1980 Chrysler 55 and I'm wondering if there's any do's and dont's RE: the swap. Do I disconnect controls at the motor or at the remote? I don't have a lift so this will be a manpower operation.

thanks
bside troller

Re: Motor Swap

You will need different controls and a wiring harness for the "new" motor, since they are different brands. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward if you have 2 strong people to lift it off. Remove the battery connections first, disconnect the shift/throttle linkage at the motor, all electrical connections, Steering connection, motor mounting bolts and lift it off. Hopefully, the new motor comes with a control and harness.
