Motor swap

Can anyone tell me if my 170 merc I/O will fit in place of a 140 I/O. The motors are the same year and make. The 170 is out of a cruisers inc and I would like to install it in a Four Winns.

While they will bolt up, they have different gear ratios.
The engines are completely different.

Why would you want to replace a motor that is still in production with totally available parts, with a motor that it no longer in production with many NLA parts?? That just seems like a bad idea.

I'd rate This Idea right up there with Pulling the whole driveline,+ Refitting the hull with a 2.3l, OMC Electric Shift Stringer Drive......
