ok i took her out Saturday for about a 2 hour cruise with the wife and kids. i didn't notice this the other day when i took it out for a short test run. when i was running it wot it sounded like i was hearing a suction like sound coming from the back of boat. it kind of concerned me so i gave my wife the wheel. and went back to investigate. i looked down at the back and noticed that the water to me seemed very low back there on the motor. but I'm not sure. the water line came right at the bottom of the fin around the gear-case here in the pic at the red arrow. is that where its supposed to be? i was thinking in the back of my head the whole time that the water line was below the water intake, but it wasn't. guess i was just paranoid. anyway is that where the water should be?

yep. common set up has the cavitation plate even with the bottom of the transom. so when you are rolling along the plate is usually right at the surface of the water. Far as I know anyway

Its common for the "antivent plate" to be even with the botton or up to an inch or so above.
Your description sounds like the setup is perfect. The less in the water the less drag.
Is the sound kind of a gentle growl. Its probably some exhaust sound breaking the surface.
Does it do this all the time or just under certain conditions.Sometimes some seaweed will make it growl a little.Technically the "water line" is where the water meets the boat at rest.
I guess you would just be refering to the water surface.

hmm. the best way i can describe it is like the sound a fast flushing toilet sounds like when you flush after the water goes down, lol. sorry but that's the best i could think of. and yes i mean water surface. ty for that.

As long as it isn't blowing the prop out it is fine, you want it as high as possible.
