Does anyone know how to start/test a helm controlled outboard motor that is not on the boat? Besides the fact that it has to be inside a tank of water or connected to the hose and gas. Is their a way to start it without having it on the boat?It is a 35 force that normally would start by the ignition on the console of my bass boat. I have in on a stand now which I want test it on. I'll attach some pictures. Ok only one pic was able to upload for now. appreciate the help.
Thanks
Dave

Re: motor starting

When I had my 75hp on a stand I had two house switches, one was on/off switch one was a spring loaded on switch. With my battery cables disconnected, I ran a cable to the red wire on the terminal strip and to common of the house switch the blue Ignition wire on the other side of the house switch with a jumper wire to the spring loaded switch common, from the other side of the spring loaded switch I had the yellow (start wire) and green (choke) from the terminal block of the motor.
Not sure if the force 35hp has the same colour coded cables. But if you know your ignition colour, your start colour and your choke colour, the above connections will get it running, when I connected the yellow and green to the spring loaded switch, if the motor didn't start straight away I would take the green out of the switch to not flood the motor.
PM me if you need more help but others here may have an easier way.

Re: motor starting

Thanks may take me a little while to visualize what your saying but I'll do mg best. I'm also thinking of spending the money to get a manual for the motor.
Thanks

Re: motor starting

If it is a magneto ignition engine, simply attach the fuel line and battery cables. Jump the positive battery wire on the solenoid to the yellow wire on the solenoid. It will crank and start. However, to stop you will need to choke the engine or jump white to blue on the terminal strip.

If it has battery ignition, again, connect fuel and battery cables. Use a small piece of wire to jump between the red and blue terminals on the terminal board. Again, jump between the positive battery wire and the yellow wire on the solenoid. The engine should crank and run.
To stop it again, either choke it OR remove the red to blue jumper wire.
