I have a 150 pro series tracker 185hp evinrude outboard on my 1992 Nitro DC bass boat, I was on the water the other day and when I gave it full throttle the motor sputtered and died on me. The motor idles fine still but if I give it sudden acceleration it sputters and dies. The friend I went with suggested that the prop I was using was causing my motor to sputter and die. This boat is from a lower elevation, I currently live in the mountains and the lakes I live around average 7000-9000ft. I currently have a 14" three blade prop at 24 degree pitch. To test his theory when I gave it full throttle he tapped the trim up a couple times during the acceleration process, boat took off and planed right out. It ran fine, so now everytime I take off from a fishing spot as I throttle I tilt the trim up and I take off fine. Is this a prop/pitch problem Im dealing with or something completely different than what I think.
I did read further on the type of prop I should be using with this bass boat and found that a four bladed prop is better for my style of boat, but what pitch is best for me and my elevation?
