Re: motor skips

what motor is it. it sounds like the clutch dog in the lower unit. i did not know a motor has a choke cable? do you mean shift cable, that being out of adjustment, could cause the motor not go all the way in gear.

Re: motor skips

Hi
Had this problem with a Johnson 9.9 a few years ago.
Disconnect shift cable from gear change lever, set gear on engine to neutral.
Set lever to neutral on control box lever, check relation of cable to motor gear lever,if out of line adjust cable.
Do the same with engine gear lever in forward and again in reverse.
Make sure the gears fully engage in forward and reverse.
If you run the boat while the motor is "jumping" you will damage the dog
clutch inside the gearbox.

Re: motor skips

The problem was the shift lever in the motor that connected to the shift rod it was pretty loose so i changed the lock nut on it tighted it and no problems since.

Thank you to all who replied.
