Motor shaft length for my SS?

I got a '77 SS. 18 footer. I'm on a motor hunt. I'm fairly sure that I need a 20" shaft motor for my boat. I've measured according to advise in this forum and I think I got that right. While searching for my motor, every once and a while a 25" motor comes along that would be a good candidate if not for the increased shaft length. My question is, am I right to not be considering these motors or should I include them in my possibilities? On the surface it seems like a 25" shaft motor is not correct for my situation, can't go as shallow, sticks further down than it should, ( I would think this would adversely affect trim). Please advise. I just saw a 115 4 stroke in my price range but it's advertised as a 25" shaft. It got me wondering. Thanks guys.

You aren't going to want a 25" motor, too deep and heavier than it needs to be.

If you had a jackplate to raise it you could get it to work, but I'd stick to 20" standard long shaft outboard.

Yeah you don't want that nor the price of the jack plate that would be needed to make that work.

You guys are fast. Thanks EZ and HA. That's what I thought. The hunt continues.
