I am trying to swap motors and keep the power trim from the old motor. I cant get the top hollow shaft that the steering rod goes through, out through the brackets. on the new motor it slides in and out fairly easily. I think it is just frozen in place does this sound right?

Re: Motor removal

Reese, It would help if you told us the year and HP of both motors. The transom clamps of some motors are compatable, others are not.

Re: Motor removal

sorry I should have included my original thread one is a 1976 115hp with power trim. and the other a 1980 90hp no power trim both have the same inner clamps but the outer is of course different. I was finally able to remove both outer assemblies that hold the pistons on and I will be able to solve my problem going that route but now I need to remove the threaded section that the steering rod goes through. this was my original prob. but I have to replace it now I damaged the threads royaly. It was a sight to see though both engines hanging by I-bolts suspended by my garage door header. used come-along to jack them up. except for the threads everything else went smooth.

Reese, If you look up both motors at www.dougrussell.com, you can compare the part numbers of the transom clamp assembly to see if they are the same. You should then know if you can do the swap.
