Need help in trying to solve a problem with a 92 merc 135 black max. Regular carburated motor. Motor been virtually trouble free for ten years. Only had one coil replaced within the first year and after about eight years had to change one of the voltage regulators. I change the plugs and lower gear lube twice a year, every year. Now have had a problem recently with the motor just cutting out and only running at 1100 rpm's, if i try to go any faster it kills. It will rev up higher in neutral but as soon as I put in gear it just does not go over 1100 rpm's. Any ideas out there?

Re: motor problems

First check the compression, Then check the spark at each sparkplug.

Engines will rev up out of gear because of a "no load" condition. Check the above first and come back. Good luck.

Re: motor problems

It could sound as it needed a carb cleaning and/or rebuild. When not under load,it will rev up even on very lean mixture. Did you eventualle have it sitting for some time with old gas in ? Try to check.

Good luck
