Motor overheating

I have two MinnKota motors, one is a 36lb and the other is a 55. On both of them the wires get hot after running for any lenth of time. My friend also has the same problem with his 36. Any idea on what causes this and how to solve the problem. Seem to me that it is an on going problem and I wonder why MinnKota doesn't correct the problem.

Thanks for your help ahead of time.

Re: Motor overheating

Which wires? The ones in the "pigtail" coming out of the motor or the ones going from the battery to the pigtail?

Wires only get hot when they are carrying more current than they should for their size.

My MK 27 Power drive and 55 Auto Pilot/Power Drive both use #6AWG wire from the battery to the plug and from the plug to the pigtail. If they ever get hot I haven't noticed.

Re: Motor overheating

Like JB said, its not Minnkota, its probably the size of the wires you have going to your battery. Hope you have a fuse or circuit breaker on your battery.
