I have a inboard that wasn't winterized. When I drained the engine block I got a cup of water followed by a small amount of oil. I assume a cracked engine block. Any advice?

Feel lucky? I have even won at Atlantic city once. Change the oil and filter, put a set of plugs in it and give it a start. Just to see what happens. You cant really break it any more then it is,if it is a cracked block.

Re: motor not winterized

That might just be from a long period of condensation in a mostly empty sump...

one cup of water doesn't sound like much if it has a crack in the block..

are you able to put a pressure pump on your cooling system to see if its leaking? or is it raw water cooled? (did it spend winter on a trailer? or moored somewhere?)

Actually, if its just condensation, you probably have mild surface rust on the inside of your bores and stuff.. it might be worth flushing the engine and stuff...

Then again, I haven't seen snow or temperatures below 5 degree's C for 15 years and that was a trip to Europe.. so what would I know??? :)

rgds

Frank
