Yes I resently bought my first boat and it's got a 1975 Johnson 70 2 stroke 3 cylinder on it. It runs great when it gets going, but when you hammer on it out of the hole it just boggs and is very slugesh. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Jon

Re: motor not pulling out of the hole

Howdy, Jon. Do you have a tach? Nothing is more valuable in evaluating what you describe than the ability to speak rpm at wide open throttle (WOT). You could have too much pitch in your prop. Ideally, you should be able to reach about 5500rpm at WOT, but not exceed it by more than little.

Unfortunately, "sluggish" and "bogs" mean different things to different people so we can't help a lot based on that. You might be just expecting too much in the way of jump.

If possible, let us know what rpm you are getting at WOT, and any peculiar sounds the engine may be making while getting there.

Standing by.
JB

No unfortunatley I don't have a tach. The best way I can explain it is that when I WOT it sounds very low and hesitant, kinda of like a power-band in a bike. It drags a little then takes off. I'm replacing the plugs today and will take it to the lake to see if it helps.

Thanks
Jon
