So i just rebuilt a chev 350, and replacing the 305 in my 1986 bayliner capri. I was setting the motor in the boat today when i learned that the stringers for the motor mounts are pretty rotted out. I know the correct way is to cut those out and put new ones in, I live in seattle wa and boating season is short around here. so my question is this: is there a cheater way to reinforce those stringers for the next 2 months and then do it right this fall?

Re: motor mount question

Bad stringers will lead to the motor moving around, which will screw up the motor to outdrive alignment.

If you are determined to do this, maybe you could sister up two 2X6s, one on each side of the stringer, and thru bolt them.

It is much better to fix it right. Poly resin sets pretty quick. You could have the whole thing done is one day. Actually it will probably be pretty close to the real repair in time.

Re: motor mount question

so you would make a string out of poly resin instead of using treated wood?
