I have a 1975 7.5 hp Mercury. Everytime I start the engine it jumps into forward gear. It usually moves to forward gear before I can even turn the throttle down. Must be tough on the gears. Anyone, I thought it was the shift lever worn but know think it might be the gear just behind the carb that may be worn. Works in reverse like it should but moves to forward with hardly any effort???
