motor Info???

I am looking for additional information about a OMC 185 V8 motor that is in a 78' four winns boat. <br />The distributor is on the back of the motor so i believe it is a Chevy SB. I am looking to find out more like the CID, 302, 305, 327, 350...<br />any information is welcome...<br />Thanks<br />Wes

From what I have cross referenced from 5.0 litre engines / GM... 185 was produced 78-81 which I would almost say was a GM 305 cid engine. Prestolite ignition system which was also used on 5.7 litre. Everything from the the fuel pump to water pump addresses it as a GM 305 but I am just using part numbers from catalog... but I hate to assume because you know what happens when you "assume"!!! LOL

WOW! Thanks...<br />I am also curious about the cam...<br />I am thinking about a mild build up with edelbrock 2101 intake and 1409 carb and am pondering about the cam.<br />Is the stock cam to mild for these mods?<br />Or do i need to replace it in order to take full advantage of the new intake & carb...
