I just got hold of what I think is a 1964 Johnson 28Hp. The numbers from the motor are as follows, Mod# RX-12M and Seriel# C400104. Manufactured in Peterbrough, Canada. It seems to be missing some parts. Mainly, throttle linkage and some electrical. There seems to be some brackets that support the recoil missing aswell. I was wondering if this motor had electric start or does the "M" in the model number mean "manual" for manual start. The motor turns free and I can't see any cracks or anything and best of all it was free. Just trying to figure out if it will be worth while to try and get it going.

Thanks in advance.

The RX-12 is a 1964 28hp, the M doesn't really mean anything except to the manufacurers, most likely a production designation of some sort. As for being elec. start, I think the RXE-12 was the elec. start version. I could be wrong there though, however you could probably convert it to elec. I beleive, if you can find the parts. Thats about all I can tell you at the moment.

Hope it helps some. :)

A Manual can show you what parts are missing, Colorado.

tcoutboard.com will have used replacement parts.

Good luck. :)

Easy enough to check if it's electric start - there will be a great big starter just to the left of the carburetor. MCM is right, the E after RX indicates it's was originally Electric start.

If you need any pics or anything just say the word. Niether my Seloc nor my Factory service manual depicts the throttle linkage very well.

Thanks Paul.

I took a look at the pic on your home page and man does it look really similar to what I have. What model is it? Pics would be great. What do you need to get them to me. Would it be easier if I set up a hotmail address or something?

The area to the left of the Carb is missing something. You can see where a part was removed due to the lack of paint.
