motor idle & flushing problems

i have a later 80's 30hp johnson the motor will idle fine on the trailer but nearlly stalls when in the water what could be wrong? im also having problems with the flushing ear muffs it seems i need full hose pressure to flush the motor even than the pee hole stops after abit (pumps good when submerged in water) any clue what im doing wrong or could do?

you idle has to be set while the motor is in the water and in gear, there is no backpressure, when run on muffs. are you using the proper muff for you motor? the best is the one where the hose connect to the front of the muff, and water comes out both sides.

thanks i will set the idle next time i go fishing also the muffs im using are oval shape large type with hose fitting on one side im thinking i might need to try the retangle type what do u think?
