Motor ID help

I was checking craigs list and found a listing for a project boat. went and looked and it was ready for the junk yard.

The motor had no cover and there was a Mercury front that said MERC 1000 in the boat.

Model and serial #s are HXE 13-B or 8 J25 11746 Pretty sure a got it right

I have look around and cannot find any reference to these #s Any help out there.

Well, it sure doesn't sound like merc 1000. RXE-13B serial #J2511746 sure would make sense as a 1964 Johnson 33hp electric start.

I am a cadet, but I thought when looking at the motor that it did not match the desciption of a 100hp merc. Nor did it look anything like my 67 merc 500.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

I have found that not everybody is on the up and up on craigs list.
