I have a Sevylor HF360 All-Around Inflatable Boat..
(LOA: 12 Feet, Beam: 5 Feet,
Max Cap: 1200 Lbs)
The Manufacterr rates the boat to handle a 3HP Engine.
I was thinking of getting the Honda BF2 2HP Motor...
what would be the approx. speed I can achieve with the 2HP motor on my boat?

The next step up for the honda is 5HP, would it be a danger to run a 5HP Motor, when the boat is only rated at 3HP?

ANy help would be apprecaited...thanks

Howdy, Musictrek. Do not exceed the rating of your boat.

As much as I love 4 strokes and all of their advantages, I would put a 3 horse 2 stroke on that boat. My all-time favorite little 2 stroke is the OMC (Johnson/Evinrude) 3 hp twin, with the optional fuel pump and adapted to a remote tank. That engine is now upgraded to 4hp, so I would seek a used one that has been well-loved.

No engine in that power range is going to make your boat a hot rod. Settle for 3 to 6 mph.

My second choice would be a 4 stroke.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB

Aren't 4 strokes for fuel effiecient and have more power..plus no mixing...
Whats your reasoning for going with a 2 Stroke?

Yes, the 4 strokes are more fuel efficient. They are also quieter, cleaner and less smelly. They don't require mixed fuel.

My reasons for the li'l OMC are that it is a twin, therefore smoother than the Honda single cylinder, 3hp is 50% more than 2 hp, and I have nostalgic memories of years of flawless service from one in my youth.

Not very strong arguments, huh? I guess if one uses only objective logic 4 stroke is the only way to go.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB
