so i have my "new" 1984 V4 90hp evinrude all rigged up on my nauset. i checked all connections (positives and grounds) and the battery is fully charged. i even ran jumper cables directly to the motor in the event the battery cables were not up to par. The motor will just not turn over quickly. It just seems to me like it should be turning over faster than it is. Any suggestions? Maybe just a weak starter? I can't imagine that my new battery is bad.

Maybe you are using a deep cycle battery that just doesn't provide the cranking voltage you would be used to.

Really sound like that battery is not fully charged, Deep cycles can fool you. Try charging it for 6 - 12 hours and try again.

Try to make it start with another battery - like your car battery if it still cranking slow - you may have a bad starter - if all ground and plus connections are good

Smoky

Same thing happened on my old merc. I took the starter off and had new brushes installed. This made ALL the difference in the world!!!! Cost was $25.
