Motor coupler spun

I recenty spun the splines right out of the motor coupler on my stern drive. Was just wondering what could be some causes of this so it doesn't happen again? Pulling the motor on your boat is not the funnest thing to do.

I would say either lack of greese on the driveshaft spline and or engine alignment.

Pulling the motor on your boat is not the funnest thing to do.

That is why you are supposed to pull the outdrive, check the alignment, and grease the coupler splines on a yearly basis.

This is my first stern drive and believe me I fully intend to pull it every year now. Just wanted some thoughts on what can cause this type of
failure.

Check your front motor mount footings. You may find they are rotten.
