Hi,

Looks like a great message board. My parents recently bought a 2001 Bayliner capri with a 125HP Mercury outboard. Does anyone know of the the recommended break in time for the motor? We had an old 30 HP Evindrude, but I don't remember it's break in time. Any suggestions and possible explantation for the break in time are welcome(I'm new to boating). Thanks!

Check with your local Merc dealer, or the owners manual for the outboard. That way you're sure to do it right. Have fun with that new boat.

RR01

I have had two new motors recently (Yamaha & Evinrude) and both required a 10hr break in period. Suggest a call to the local dealer.

Re: Motor break in time

I have a 2001 Mercury 125 on a 171 Champion my dealer instructed me to add oil to my first tank of gas (25 gallon) so it was double oiled with the oil injection and his advice was to not go over 4000 rpms and not to run the same speed for more then a couple of minutes 2nd tank of gas wide open but I would still ask your dealer

They say that they can hook your boat up to a machine and check how high the rpm's have been if there was a problem

Good Luck
