Motor Alignment

I am remounting my Johnson 85hp Ob back on my boat. Where exactly do I line up the the motor to the bottom of the boat? Thanks, Al

al, take a straight edge,like a yard stick, lay it on the bottom side of the cavitation plate.slide it forward and it should be even with the bottom of the hull

Pinkmouse, Using the holes on my motor i cannot get it even with the bottom of the boat. Is it better to have it below or above a little? Thanks, Al

Above is always better but how high depends on the prop and bottom design. A SST will run higher than an aluminum, a Raker higher, a Stlietto higher and a 4 blade even higher. And make sure it's in the center of the keel not necessairly the center of the top of the transom.<br /><br />Good luck!
