Family and I are planning a trip to CT next week and in preparation for that trip I ventured online to a popular hotel/motel chains website. I quickly found the motel in PA where I have stayed before and was able to choose a room from the online selection. I went through the process of entering my personal info and credit card info and clicked "submit".
An order summary screen comes up and I notice the total estimated charges to be $599.xx. (don't remember the cents). WTH? I look closer to find that I had somehow reserved 9 rooms!
This is where I enter the twilight zone...
I make a few clicks on my computer to get to a screen where it gives the option to change/cancel your reservation...I click on that. It brings up a screen where each room is listed individually with a check box next to each one (instructions say to remove check mark to delete room...I do that on 8 of them and click the "proceed" button...gives me an error message that the website cannot process the command at this time, blah, blah, blah.
I call the 877 number listed on the website and speak to a female with a slight accent and explain to her that I just made reservations online and somehow, unintentionally, reserved 9 rooms instead of just one. She kindly acknowledges that she understands and proceeds to tell me that she is happy to help me correct the issue and to do so she will have to cancel the current reservation and create a new one with only one room.
After a minute or two of silence (I assume she is typing on her computer) she responds that the reservation is cancelled and then she confirmed the check in date and number of nights...few more moments of silence...then she comes back with "I'm sorry, sir, but there are no rooms available for that date at this time" WTH? I calmly explained to her that I thought that would be highly unlikely, being that the cancellation just made 9 rooms available. She stuck to her story - the computer does not show any rooms available at this time. Again I pointed out the fallacy in her logic, but to no avail. I declined the offer to book at another motel location and advised her I would be contacting another motel chain.
I really like the motel, so I swallow my pride and call the motel directly. A nice young woman asks for my check in date, and, low and behold, they have rooms available! I successfully book a room for $11 more than the online price (I did not tell her about the experience I just had, at that point my blood pressure was high enough).
Just wanted to give a big, sarcastic "thank you" to the nice, ignorant customer service rep I had the pleasure of dealing with at the 877 number.
Thanks for letting me vent...
