Hi all i`m looking to replace my old suzuki 140hp her days are numbered most dealers over here are telling me the 4 strokes arn`t much good for skiing as they are a little sluggish out the hold i`m not to fussed on brand just want great power and reliability!! price varies so much between a carb yammy cheapest 150 and an E-TEC 150 is the most expensive over here, pretty keen on a new vmax hpdi but can`t seem to get much much feed back on the late models . What should i do its hard to find genuine feedback. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

You might try posting this in one of the outboard motor forums.

My BIL has a 2001 Johnson 150 2 stroke carb on an 18' runabout. Nice engine. No problems.

I don't have personal experience with them but I've read a lot of great reports on the Evinrude E-tec. That would probably be my first choice.

It is your money, but I personally would never buy a brand new outboard! There are tons of great running 10+ year old outboards for just a fraction of the cost of a new one. I would be hunting craigslist like crazy for a great running motor with controls. There are tons on there every week!

Amen....you can get them for 1/3 the cost of new with less than 100 hours on them.

A new E-Tec would be nice but if you're swinging on the 4 stroke rope the new Yami's and Merc's are redesigned in 2011 and the hole shots are vastly improved. Still, they won't beat an E-Tec but they're comming close. As for buying a new motor, take it from someone who's done their fair share of work on used motors, buy new with an extended warranty and never look back.
