Re: most memorable motorized toy when you were a kid?

at 14 i bought a husky 250cc off road bike that was rough but it ran. when my dad found out weeks later he made me bring it home so he could see it. that night he and mum went in to the garage and tore the bike to bits. nothing was broken but they even removed the gears from the shafts. the next day my dad told me that when im old enoght to put it back together then i will be old enoght to ride it. 3 days later after borrowing a rebuild manual and putting all the parts back together i kicked it over and on the 3rd try it started and i rode it out of the garage with a great big grin. my old man came out once he heard the engine start and to say he was upset was a understatement. i have no idea where he took the bike and was told never to ask but when i was 15-1/2 it turned back up in the garage and i was allowed to go back to riding in the sand pits. that old bike was a mess but it was fun.

1st, was an HO race car set.
2nd, was an cox airplane.
3rd, a home made mini bike, with 3 1/2 HP Briggs.
Still have the HO set, and the cox airplane, although its been glued pretty many times.

I still have my 70 Honda trail 90 that my grandpa bought me for finishing 6th grade with straight A's. Just finished a bare frame restore on it undoing all the evil I did to it as a kid. Spent more on new parts than the bike cost new! Runs and looks perfect now, I chase my dogs daily with it.

Had a Aurora slot car set. Does that count????????? Good times there.................[/QUOTE]

By all means it counts . that was my first reaction to the toy question ? me and my friend had sets and would go to Times Square Store every week and buy a new car and extra track . my fav. was the Willy Gasser . he had a Mustang that beat me in a race , but my gasser wouldnt budge on the criss-cross and flipped him every time . ,....***just a thought,...kids these days are missing out on the best hands on fun we all had . ,......chopping out bikes , mini bikes, rock tag, kick the can , johnny on a pony ,...do they even know of spin the bottle or 7 minutes in heaven ;)??? lol,..the list goes on and on ,....

I don't know what you consider a kid, but when I graduated the Academy, I purchased a WWII Tank and had it restored! I still have it to this day and it is a toy I can do just about anything I want with! I have had it for over 30 years now! Currently it has custom rubber tracks on it, so it can be drove in the local Veterans Day Parade, it is always a big hit, but the fuel mileage is terrible! It sits in front of the local National Guard Office on display most of the year.
