First time question, but avid reader of the forums. So far, with the forums help, I replaced head gaskets, thermostats, then entire power head on my Fling !!

Now I need more help as I am trying to find a steering cable to replace a Morse cable (name is stamped on red cable) I snapped in my Four Winns Fling Jet boat.

One end is 5/16 threaded, the other end looks like a nail head (?). It's 13' long. It sits in a round tube that has a spiral in it. As you turn the wheel, a roller rides in the spiral, moving the cable in or out (left or right @ nozzle end)

I ordered a Teleflex 43BC, but no good, won't work. Any ideas ? See pics of steering wheel end of the cable, other is the adapter off nozzle end that it threads into. It is a "thru bulkhead" type cable.

Thanks,

So is your steering box the same ? A tube approx 8-12 inches long with a spiral notch. This pic is from the 95 manual and mine looks nothing like this rotary unit....color pic of my steering box attached

i have what is described in the manual, I've never seen anything like what you have, i haven't tried too hard to find the cable yet, im still reassembling my engine and i figure just deal with the basket case one step at a time. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay, and what kind of condition was she in? I'm still not sure whether i got had or not on this one.

Paid $1300 for boat and trailer (not running). (Boat and trailer were immaculate for a 95 though) Replaced the #4 head gasket, fuel pump, sea strainer, and some misc stuff ($500) and ran it for 6 weeks till it ate #4 cylinder. Bought rebuilt 115 from marina mechanic for $1200, plus trolley/chain hoist to remove motor from boat ($100), so about $3100 total investment.
Learned tons from this site, and that gave me the courage to pull and replace the powerhead. I have always wrenched on cars, so this was just something new to try and conquer.

I have ended up ordering the Teleflex JBS steering helm, bezel, and cable from Washington. Cost $222 dollars shipped. Hopefully I can get a couple more weeks in the water here (S.E. Pa.) before it gets too cold. The wife is already talking boat withdrawal symptoms!!! LOL !!

It's funny, when I wanted a boat, she did not agree with it, but now I can't keep her off the water !!! I have a feeling a bigger boat is in the future plans.....
