Tried to fish yesterday and after a 250 mile trailer got the boat in and she fired up on a half pull as usual. Water was pumping great after a new impeller last week. Then she just died, ran nice for about 15 secs and shut down, never really tried to fire again. We tried on and off for about an hour and a half, letting it sit, for up to 30 minutes at a time before getting back to it.

The motor traveled down in my truck not on the transom, could this have an impact?

I plan on rebuilding the carb this week but that's all I really know to do. Will also check the plugs. Please shoot some ideas my way.

I plan to get this motor back in running condition and sell it, I'm looking at a new Tohatsu 15 4 stroke (best price so far is 2049, can I find better?), I don't get enough time to fish to ruin it...

Step one is to determine if the trouble is electrical, fuel or mechanical. Tohatsu pricing is usually wthin a dollar among internet vendors. Local dealers usually have them priced 15% higher.

Can anyone give me some simple tests to perform to start ruling out problems.

I plan to replace the plugs and check for spark, if I have that then I'll tackle the carb etc. Not sure what to do after that if it doesn't work.

I tried to fire it yesterday for the first time since the incident and it soulds like it's not getting spark, won't attempt to fire etc. Hope it is just a simple connection problem or something of that nature.

Any tips for a motor that all the sudden won't fire but still turns over fine and is getting fuel?

I pulled a plug out of curiosity and it looked pretty gunky, could running seafoam have caused some gunk to break free etc?

Re: more trouble nissan 92 9.9b2

the more I read I'm starting to connect some dots here. I thought it was unrelated but my primer bulb doesn't stay hard and I can hear the fuel gushing in and out. I read some posts that make me think my float needle in my carb is stuck making it easy to flood the engine, also accounts for the bulb and the rough running and stalling at less then WOT last time out. Hope that's all it is.

Pulling plugs tonight to let it air out and cleaning the carb this week. Fingers are crossed.
