Ok guys, here is the scoop. I filled the tilt unit up with fluid and it did lower very slow but It was lowering and the motor sounded about the same in both directions but it sounded like it was sucking air or had air in the lines when lowering. This ia when I noticed it was leaking all of the fluid out as it was lowering through the side screw (I think it is a manual valve to lower the unit incase of power failure) when looking at it closly I can see that part of the o ring is bad and it is leaking around the screw. Is this something that I can replace without taking the motor off or do I need to take it to a boat shop? The o ring looks like it is held it place with a snap ring. I feel if I can replace this and keep the fluid it it will work fine. If it is something that I can replace how do I go about it? Thank you for all of your help, its greatly appreciated!
Ron

Hey, Ron. The book says to take it to the shop to deal with that, but... if you can get a replacement seal/"O"ring I would try this:

That screw is , as you surmised, a pressure relief valve to lower the engine in the event of system failure. You can't allow the engine to lower, because then you wouldn't have access to the reservoir to refill it after servicing the valve. Prop your engine on your transom saver (Don't have one? Go get one.). Try, gently, to remove the screw/valve and replace the seal. (We are beyond the book, here, so proceed with extreme caution.) Refill the reservoir, cycle it a few times, refilling as required and resting to allow bubbles to dissipate, and you should be home free. Let us know if that works.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Thanks a million J.B. I will let you know what happens. When I fill the fluid and cycle it do I need to bleed it like I would a set of car breaks or does it dissipate the air bubbles by letting it sit and refilling. If I do bleed it what valve would I use? Next job after this is the waterpump. I bought a book last night but if someone has any great tips on replacing it I'd love to hear them or is the waterpump on the 115 horse something I should let a shop do? Ahter that it is off to the lake :)
Thank you!
Ron

Hey, Ron.

No need to bleed.

The waterpump is a little intimidating on the first time, but a snap after that. Go for it.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
