I was told that rejetting my 2000 model Mercury 150 Saltwater motor will increase the power to 200 hp. Is this true? If so, will it decrease the life of the motor?
No and yes, respectively. Carbs are jetted to give the proper air/fuel mixture ratio. It could be that larger carbs (the carbs that came with the 200 maybe) might get you the extra power but then it might also take a different exhaust too.
Depends on the motor and the electronics. What's the ser# and the model.
Some Mercs.can change HP by the electronic modual.
Just re-jetting won't do it.J
Stay away from who told you that... The block porting, carbs, tuner are totally different between a 150 and 200 even though they may share the same bore/strokespec's..
Thanks for the prompt replies. It sounds like increasing the horsepower may be expensive. The specifics for the motor are:
Serial # OT334960
150XL CAR
2001 model
