more horsepower

Have a 1984 18hp Merc ob. The specs in the manual indicate this motor identical to a 25hp. <br />Can the hp be increased? Would it damage the motor? Any suggestions,advise greatly appreacheated.Thanks Dave

Hi, Drayner.<br /><br />This may sound too basic, but if it were identical to the 25 it would be 25.<br /><br />Do a search on more hp. This subject has been beat to death several times.<br /><br />Good luck.

the cost to buy the parts, to do it, would be far more then the price of a new motor! I once was at the helm of a computer at a Evinrude dealer ship, it took my 2 hours but I typed in every item needed to make a 6 horse motor (all the parts) it was 2 thousand more the a new motor, allready built!<br /><br />think about it
