Motor is johnson 50 2000 (j50plssm) I need to replace the fuel pump. Motor originally had VRO, which has been disconnected. I'm looking for the replacent pump, and all I seem to find are pumps for VRO. Since I now pre-mix, do I nned to spend $300 on a VRO/fuel pump?? Is their another option??
Thanks!!

Re: more fuel pump questions...

Probably not. The VRO system was built into the pump so most replacement pumps are going to have it, you would need a pump that was NON VRO that would fit your engine. If your dealer doesn't offer a non VRO pump for your engine then you will either
A) have to find another pump designed for a non VRO system
or
B) buy the VRO pump and block off the VRO inlet.

Re: more fuel pump questions...

I just went through this with my 1988 70 VRO that had the oil side of the pump disabled. I bought an OMC replacement fuel pump that looks like a VRO pump but is for fuel only. I was told that there are a number of other fuel pumps that would work but that I would have to figure out hoses and mounting on my own. With the OMC pump I bought I used all the same hoses and mounting screws ... install was very easy. The only drawback was that the pump ran $150+ and alteratives would have been significantly less expensive (but again, more of a pain for me to install).
