I'm sorry for all of these questions but am getting some answers that are just raising more questions:

I bought the engine separate from the boat (12" Olympian), and wonder if maybe the engine is the problem, not its HP. How much of the engine should be below the bottom of the hull? How do I know what my engine's shaft length is (what part do I measure)? How do I know if the propellor that came with it, is the right propellor (maybe just getting the right propellor (assuming the one that is on it is wrong) would solve my problems. My biggest complaint about the boat, is that it is so slow. It will not plane, and I see others with similar boats skipping along, and all mine does is stick the bow up in the air. So, if I get a different engine, how do I make sure I get the right one?

Re: More 9.9 questions

Hi, RJ. If I recall from your other post, that boat is rated for 15hp. If it is a planing hull a 9.9 should plane it easily.

Your 9.9 is probably not making full power, or it is poorly propped.

Do you know what sort of boat it was on before?

Remove the prop and look for numbers stamped around the hub. Tell us the numbers.

See my reply to your THIRD post for measurements. The Cavitation plate on your motor should be even with the bottom of the transom.

PLEASE DON"T start another topic. You have relevant info spread out in three already.

Standing by.
JB :)
