Well went for my first hunt up here in Northern Ontario,Canada for bullwinkle.Second day was scouting the edge of a old gravel pit (bush) and loa and behold there was a moose staring at me from about 100 yards or so.Problem was i only had a calf tag and bull j winkle was facing right dead on to me so i was not 100 percent positive that it was a calf as the bugger would not turn its head for me to see if it had a shorter snout.Well to make my misery shorter a few seconds later a very large cow stepped out from behind a tree to the left and moma and calf made off to the wilderness with the calf fully blocked from view.Needless to say i darn near cried !Better luck next time i guess as in hind site it would of been a real chore to get the body of the moose out of the swamp and a mistake would of cost dearly.

Many of the area logger's are on "standby" and they usually charge a small but worthwhile fee to retrieve a downed moose with a skidder. The season is in now here in VT too but I did not apply for the lottery tag this year...... good luck!

I was driving thru Blind River, Ontario last friday, and someone had stopped at Tim Horton's coffee shop and had bagged two big bulls in a trailer.

Didn't know a hunting party had even the chance of two bull tags, but they were there, and sure impressive animals! Have no idea exactly where they were hunting.

Good luck

You have to be very hungry to want to kill a moose calf and have to drag it out of the woods with mommy on your tail.I think I will stick to perch fishing.

Your quite correct, but mommy will usually leave in due time normally. We can really be thankful daddy doesnt hang around with junior!
